North of the village, the fibre stops.

Kleinburg village has good internet. Parts of the countryside north of it do not: our analysis of federal broadband data shows only about 55 percent of homes around Weston Road and Kirby Road can get 50/10 Mbps over a wired line. York Region's YorkNet expects fibre there in summer 2027. The same planning steps are in our cottage tech checklist.

Starlink, installed properly

The dish goes where it sees open sky, wired into the network. On one wooded lot: about 25 Mbps before, 320 to 380 Mbps after, measured on site.

A backup that takes over

A second connection switches in by itself when the first one drops, so cameras and alerts stay online.

Ready for fibre

The network is built so fibre plugs straight in when it finally reaches your road.

Starlink done right, on video.

From AVAS Automation projects: a house in the woods that went from about 25 Mbps to 320 to 380 Mbps on Starlink, measured on site, and a lakeside property with WiFi all the way to the dock.

Heritage rules and Humber valleys.

Kleinburg has its own heritage plan and Vaughan has its own tree rules. This is what we check first.

The heritage districtInside the Kleinburg-Nashville district, visible modern equipment such as satellite dishes, meters and new light fixtures can need a heritage permit, dishes go away from public view, and pot lights in the eaves are not supported. Vaughan's heritage district page.
Valleys and floodplainKleinburg sits between two branches of the Humber, and about a quarter of the heritage district is floodplain, so trenches near the valleys can need a Toronto and Region Conservation Authority permit.
TreesVaughan protects private trees 20 cm across or more, so cable routes stay out of root zones. Vaughan's tree by-law.
Dark sky lightingIn the valleys and on the ridgelines, the heritage plan asks for small, low, dark sky fixtures, so landscape lighting is planned that way.

Short answers on internet, permits and cameras.

Can I get fast internet or Starlink north of Kleinburg?

North of Kleinburg, where wired internet can be weak, AVAS Automation installs Starlink with a backup connection. On one AVAS Starlink job, speeds measured on site rose from about 25 Mbps to 320 to 380 Mbps. York Region's YorkNet expects fibre near Weston and Kirby, Highway 27 and Kirby, and Kipling and King-Vaughan in summer 2027.

Do I need a heritage permit for a satellite dish in Kleinburg?

Inside the Kleinburg-Nashville Heritage Conservation District, the plan asks for a heritage permit before modern equipment visible from outside, such as satellite dishes and exterior light fixtures, and wants dishes kept away from public view. It does not mention cameras, so AVAS Automation checks visible items with Vaughan heritage staff before quoting.

Do my cameras in Kleinburg keep working if the internet goes down?

AVAS camera systems record to a recorder inside the house, so recording carries on offline. With a backup connection, AVAS Automation sets the network to switch over by itself, so alerts and remote viewing keep working when the main line drops. On rural lots north of Kleinburg, that backup matters most until fibre arrives.
