Smart lighting and motorized shades in Toronto, designed and installed by AVAS Automation, a Control4 certified dealer.

A finished family room with a dark wood slat wall, a wall mounted TV beside a black speaker, and a window with a motorized shade rolled up into a black headrail

Six switches. And still the wrong light.

Sound familiar? This is where most homes start.

A wall of switches

A bank of switches by the door, and you still flick a few before the right light comes on.

Shades pulled by hand

Tall windows, cords and wands, a west sun all afternoon and no privacy after dark.

The bedtime walk

Lights left on all over the house, and a last lap through every room to turn them off.

How AVAS Automation fixes it

Morning. Dinner. Movie. Goodnight.

Tap a scene on the keypad. The lights and the shade move together, the way AVAS Automation programs them.

A bright family room from a recent whole home project: a TV between white oak built-ins, a linear fireplace, a pale sofa, a white pendant light and tall glass doors with a sheer curtain, shown with simulated lighting

Morning: every light at full, cool and bright, with the shade open to let the day in.

A real room from a recent whole home project. The lights, the shade and the TV glow are simulated on the photo to show what one press does.

Three backlit scene keypads engraved with names like Kitchen, Chandelier, Morning, Goodnight, Watch TV and Shades, under a Control4 touchscreen, on a grey wall in the AVAS trailer

Keypads engraved in your words.

AVAS Automation plans the scenes with you room by room, then replaces the switch banks with keypads engraved with your own scene names.

  • Scenes planned with you, in your words: Morning, Dinner, Goodnight, and movie scenes that start the TV
  • One backlit keypad where the bank of switches was, engraved so it reads in the dark
  • Scenes and schedules run on the controller in your home, and keep working when the internet drops

Finished home, or still at framing.

AVAS Automation fits lighting control into finished homes and plans it into new ones, working from your builder's and designer's drawings.

Already finished

Smart dimmers and keypads often fit the wall boxes you already have, so many rooms need no new wiring and no open walls.

Before drywall

On new builds and renovations the lighting and shade wiring goes in once, planned with your builder. Builders who bring us in: Delfina Group, Absolute Craftsmen, Marmo Contracting.

With your designer

Keypad finishes, where they sit on the wall and the shade fabric at every window, decided with your designer on the drawings.

Questions? Straight answers.

What people ask us about lighting control and motorized shades.

How much does smart lighting control cost?

AVAS Automation quotes each lighting and shade project after a free consult. The cost depends on how many lights you want on the system, how many keypads replace switch banks, the number, size and fabric of the motorized shades, and whether the home is finished or open before drywall. You get a written plan before work starts.

Ask us: (416) 800-6714
Do you install Lutron, or only Control4 lighting?

AVAS Automation designs lighting and shades around Control4, so lights, shades, whole home audio and cameras run as one smart home from the same keypads and app. We do not usually install new Lutron, but we have taken over Lutron homes. At the free consult we tell you honestly what can stay and what should change.

Ask us: (416) 800-6714
Can smart lighting be added to a finished home?

Yes, AVAS Automation adds lighting control to finished homes. Smart dimmers and keypads often fit the wall boxes you already have, so many rooms need no new wiring and no open walls. Motorized shades fit existing windows. In a renovation or new build we plan the wiring before drywall, which opens up more options.

Ask us: (416) 800-6714
Are motorized shades noisy, and will they hang straight?

AVAS Automation installs motorized shades that run quietly and hang straight, because we measure every window and fit each shade level. The motors are quiet enough for a bedroom at night, and the motor and wiring stay hidden in the headrail. Tall or hard to reach windows are no harder to automate than small ones.

Ask us: (416) 800-6714
What happens to my lights and shades if the internet goes down?

They keep working, because AVAS Automation runs them on a Control4 controller inside your home, not in the cloud. Keypads, schedules and scenes carry on as usual. Only control from outside the house, through the app on your phone, waits until the internet is back.

Ask us: (416) 800-6714
Can the shades close on their own at night?

Yes, AVAS Automation can schedule your shades to close at sunset, so big windows stop turning into mirrors after dark, and open again in the morning. A Goodnight scene can close every motorized shade in the house from one press. A sheer and a blackout can share one window, for privacy by day and darkness at night.

Ask us: (416) 800-6714
Can you work with my interior designer and builder?

Yes, AVAS Automation works from your designer's and builder's drawings: keypad finishes and placement, the shade fabric at each window, and the wiring plan before drywall. Builders who bring us in include Delfina Group, Absolute Craftsmen and Marmo Contracting. Call us before framing starts and the wiring goes in once.
